IETF-71: Philadelphia - 2008

If you are considering arriving on the Saturday before IETF 71 (March 8, 2008), please be aware that the Philadelphia Flower Show is taking place next door at the Philadelphia Convention Center.  This is a very popular show which attracts over 250,000 people each year.  It is run by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, and is the largest indoor flower show in the world.  That show ends on the Sunday that IETF 71 begins, so most people will be checking out the same day that most IETF people will be checking in.  Thus, if you plan to arrive early, contact the hotel ASAP to make your reservation and understand that the Saturday rate may be higher (or unavailable) due to high demand.

IETF 71 is a Comcast-sponsored meeting, and Comcast has special prices available at the hotels noted above since Philadelphia is our headquarters city and we bring many people to the city.  These rates typically include free high-speed Internet access, and sometimes a continental breakfast, in addition to an attractive nightly room rate.  Please note that the rates that the IETF negotiates and posts on their website are better that the Comcast rates, since these are based on commitments for blocks of rooms.  So, please use the IETF rates first at the Marriott Downtown.  Should these rooms be filled up, please note that these special rates are available only when you call the hotel directly at their local reservations telephone number and request the Comcast rate.  When doing so, simply explain that you are traveling to Philadelphia for a Comcast meeting and you would like to see if a special Comcast rate is available.  During times of high-demand, these rates are not available or may be more expensive, so it varies by hotel and by date.  The further in advance that you book your room, the better chance you have of getting a special rate.  Should you need a letter indicating that you are traveling to Philadelphia for a Comcast-sponsored meeting, please contact us.  This is in no way a guarantee or promise that these rates will be available, it is simply an indication that one may be available.
